I’ve always been pretty good about my skincare routine, even from a young age it was drummed into me about the importance of removing my make up every night. Albeit a simple routine I always make sure I mix it up throughout the seasons to give my skin the ingredients it needs to be at its best.

My skin is pretty combination all year round but during the winter months due to indoor heating and freezing cold temperatures outside my skin does start to suffer. As I’ve got older I’ve definitely started spending a bit more on products and doing a lot more research before I buy. In my 20’s I used to be swayed by magazines and adverts, using anything and not really noticing the ingredients in the product.

For me this time of year is all about finding products that hydrate, exfoliate and brighten my skin, so here’s what I’ve been using over the recent months.

Oskia Renaissance Cleansing Gel – this stuff literally smells like a spa (thanks to the rose fragrance) and melts onto your skin. The gel consistency feels like a real treat and  turns into an oil when massaged onto your face. As well as removing all make up, it makes skin feel really clean without drying out any areas. It also contains fruit enzymes which help remove dead skin cells and renew collagen production.

Pixi Glow Tonic – I tend to use this most of the year to be honest, not just during the colder months. I’ve noticed my skin tends to have more of a glow when I do have this within my routine. It works as an exfoliating tonic with a 5% glycolic acid, gently purifying the skin. Another alternative to this would be Clarins Gentle Exfoliator Brightening Toner.


For me the biggest part of my winter essentials are the products I use in the evening. Giving my skin a bit of a boost before bed really pays off the next day. My absolute faves this winter have been Sarah Chapman Overnight Facial, and Kiehls Midnight Recovery Concentrate. Most nights i’ll pop a few drops of the Kiehls Midnight Recovery on before my moisturiser, I’ve used this for years and it’s still a firm favourite. Once or twice a week I’ll massage in the Overnight Facial by Sarah Chapman. It smells amazing and helps give my skin a nice glow in the morning thanks to ingredients such as Vitamin-A and anti-oxidents.


La Mer Moisturizing Soft Cream – This has been my skincare staple every winter for the last few years. Thanks to a birthday in the later part of the year, it normally finds its way  onto my wish list. My Husband appreciates not having to think up of a present every year, and I definitely appreciate the treat, win win! I’ve tried a few products within the La Mer brand, The Renewal Oil being a favourite too, but if I had to choose just one it would be this one. The original Moisturizing Cream tends to be a bit too heavy for me, and the gel formula is perfect for the warmer months, but the soft cream is just right for this time of year. It’s very luxurious and delivers an instant glow to my skin, perfect to layer under make up. I find it very lightweight even though it delivers a very nourishing and hydrating feel.


I wasn’t going to include body products, but seeing as that’s the thing I suffer with most in the colder months I thought I would add it in. Probably due to the deathly hot showers I put my body through, my skin tends to turn into a dry scaly mess. I’m not great at spending time to moisturise my body, so for me the L’occitane Almond shower oil is perfect. I’ve repurchased this duo time and time again, the smell is incredible. I hate when moisturisers don’t sink into your skin and leave a sticky consistency, you definitely don’t get that with the L’occitane Almond Milk Concentrate, my skin feels super soft and it just sinks right in. I also love the fact the moisturiser comes in a glass jar so you can get every last bit out!

It’s not a huge secret that i’m a bit of a sucker for a good slogan top, I probably own far too many than is acceptable but the beginning of 2018 has brought us some good ones. I tend to edge more on the side of ‘classy’ when it comes to a slogan top (i like to think!) They’re so easy to style with a simple pair of jeans so perfect for me to chuck on before the school run without making a huge amount of effort. Happy New Year

Every year I follow suit and think up some ‘new year resolutions’ to try and stick to, truth be told I don’t actually have any, I just cave under the pressure when someone asks me what mine are…. I usually end up blurting out, ‘oh you know, just the usual lose weight, tone up, eat healthier this year’ What usually happens is I fall off the wagon by mid January, feel completely crap that I ate that Chinese takeaway I promised myself I wouldn’t, sound familiar?

Well not this year! In order to be kinder to myself I have decided to promise myself a few small things, nothing that will make me feel rubbish if I don’t stick to them, just some ways to simply look after myself going into 2018. I don’t know about you, but most of 2017 was spent feeling, well a bit bleugh! More illnesses than usual, walking around in a cloudy fog a lot of the time! So here’s what i’m planning on for this year…

More Sleep!

I am literally my worst enemy when it comes to sleep. I’m constantly tired and lacking in energy & usually have trouble waking up most mornings. To try and combat this last year I bought myself a Lumie Lamp, the lamp that gradually wakes you with a gentle light each morning…. only, I think it would work better if I actually went to bed before midnight! So this year i’ve made a promise to myself that I will get to bed at a more reasonable hour, 10.30pm at the latest. So far so good!

Move more

I used to be so active before I had children and towards the end of last year finally got back into fitness, and I honestly feel so much better for it. This year I want to try and increase this, spend more time outside with the kids on scooters, bikes, beach walks… It is true, the more you exercise the more energy you feel you have! I’m not going to lie, I don’t enjoy spending hours in the gym or going for a long run (think phoebe from friends and you’ll get my running style), I prefer classes such as boxing and yoga, & I think as long as you’re doing something you enjoy you’ll stick with it.

Be more organised

Ever turned over the diary and realised its someones birthday today? That literally has happened to me so many times this year, yet I used to be so super organised! What’s happened to me? I would blame it on ‘baby brain’, although mine are 10 & 3! So no more, 2018 will be the year I actually look at my diary, theres only so long before my dogs groomer blacklists me for missing an appointment, seriously that dog gets pampered more regularly than I do!

De clutter

I bought the famous Marie Kondo book about 3 years ago, have I de-cluttered my life? Nope! I did read it and ebayed a few bits after, but that’s about as far as I got. So once a month (I’ve actually diarised it!) I,m gonna have a little de-clutter. Starting with our wardrobes, pretty sure i’m not getting back into the size 8 jeans I’ve had since 2004, so out they go! I’ve started on mine already and it feels sooo good to be tidy and clean… plus I have room to buy more stuff now 😉 Next on the list is the car and kitchen cupboards!

Start a blog

And here we are! I’ve been reading blogs for years. I used to write blogs for other peoples businesses when I worked in Marketing. I love seeing beautiful photos, reading different opinions and advice from people and have been meaning to start my own for such a long time. I always thought, what if it’s rubbish? what if no one wants to read it? But you know what, it doesn’t matter who reads it, I just love to write, take photos, try new things. Since being at home with the boys, although I’ve loved every minute (apart from the tantrums, cooking food no one eats and meltdowns, but we’ll gloss over that!) I have missed work. Something for me to get stuck into, so here we are at the start of 2018 with a first blog post! Happy New Year!
